Roblox will be shutting down Roblox Connect, its video calling service introduced in 2023. Roblox Connect let you video chat with other people using your Roblox avatar, which would be able to mimic the movements you were making in real life. You could also run around with people on the call in a shared virtual […]
At its peak, around 12 million people subscribed to World of Warcraft so that they could explore the realm of Azeroth together. The audience for PointlessQuest is quite a bit smaller. On launch day, the game hit a peak of 15 concurrent players… and no, that sentence isn’t missing a word. Then again, basically everything […]
The video game industry is in turmoil. Microsoft and Sony are starting to pivot to their next consoles, but it’s not looking great: Prices are soaring, Sony is killing the video game disc, and Microsoft is jettisoning studios ahead of the transition. What could entice people to pay? On the Xbox front, we genuinely can’t […]
Discounts on the Nintendo Switch 2 are rare, but they do happen on occasion. There’s one happening now, actually, on the company’s $499.99 console bundle that includes a digital game (Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, or Pokémon Pokopia). Usually, the bundle saves you $20 or $30, depending on the game you choose, but for […]
Sony is delaying the launch of its FlexStrike fight stick controller for PS5 and PC, which had been set to launch on August 6th, to an unspecified date in the future. The company blames the delayed launch on “unexpected production delays.” The original planned launch of the FlexStrike would have lined up with the release […]
When I first told you about the “OLED Xbox Ally X of my dreams,” I had to curb my enthusiasm a bit. That’s partly because I hadn’t yet tried the handheld myself, and partly because Asus was only planning to sell it bundled with a pair of expensive AR glasses! I’m happy to say both […]
Live-service games and the companies that run them are in big trouble. Games and their developers are getting shut down and gutted, and publishers’ huge promises are dubious. Meanwhile, EverQuest, one of the original live-service games, is thundering back more than 25 years later. EverQuest Legends is currently in preorder beta with an upcoming release […]
Almost all gaming laptops have gone up in price over the past year. Curiously, the surprisingly fast Asus ROG Flow Z13 gaming laptop/tablet combo has not. It’s actually gotten quite a bit cheaper recently. Best Buy has the lowest price on the configuration that includes the AMD Ryzen AI Max Plus 395 “Strix Halo” chipset, […]
SteelSeries has the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless gaming headset on sale for $239.99 (currently between $300 and $350 at other retailers). The Xbox version that supports a host of other platforms including PlayStation, PC, and Switch is available in both black and white. The PlayStation version, which supports the same platforms except for Xbox, is […]
I’ve always been the gamer in the family. When my son was born nearly 11 years ago, gaming was one of the things I looked forward to sharing with him. Pulling up a chair next to me, he would watch as I played Sea of Thieves with friends, often wearing the too-big-for-his-head headset to talk […]
