OpenAI’s Sora app is struggling after its stellar launch
New data suggests the app is seeing declines in both app downloads and consumer spending, as the early hype about the AI video social network wears off.
After the one year is up, Disney is free to sign similar deals with other AI companies.
AI-generated content has dominated the internet over the past year, and America’s dictionary took note.
Disney says that alongside the agreement, it will “become a major customer of OpenAI,” as it will use its APIs to build new products, tools, and experiences, including for Disney+.
This makes the Android launch more than 4x the size of the iOS launch, with 327% more installs (360,000) — but the firm notes that’s not an apples-to-apples comparison.
The Sora app is now available for Android users in the US, Canada, and Japan, among other regions.
OpenAI’s hit AI video app, Sora, is getting a wave of new features, including video editing tools, pet and object “cameos,” and enhanced social options. The Android app is also “coming soon.”
New data from Similarweb shows Meta AI’s mobile app is surging in popularity, jumping from 775,000 to 2.7 million daily active users in just four weeks. The app is now seeing roughly 300,000 new installs per day — up from under 200,000 previously.
